Repairing the Broken Bowl
Sunday, Jul 12, 2026 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM EDT
Broken Bowl is a daylong workshop based on the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi and the ancient practice of kintsugi. These approaches treat the cycle of breakage and repair as a part of an object's history rather than something to be discarded or disguised. The maker must move through a process of confronting change, accepting change, and deciding how to move forward with what is left. Join us for this insightful experience where you will learn how to make meaning out of brokenness. Be mindful that this process is likely to bring up strong emotions surrounding loss and care is taken to preserve the safety of the group. Participants are encouraged to bring a journal.
Because this workshop goes through the lunch hour, I will give you time to go into downtown Carrboro to get lunch. You may also bring your own lunch. I have a fridge and microwave.
